Following India's victory over England in the first Twenty20 International star batsman Yuvraj Singh dedicated his man of the match award to the girl who was gangraped in a moving bus in Delhi on Sunday night.

"I want to dedicate this man of the match medal to the girl in Delhi. It is very sad, what has happened to her. The whole team is really concerned and I don't know what the state of the girl is. I want to dedicate the man of the match award to her and her parents. Hopefully it is not going to happen ever again," Yuvraj said in Pune on Thursday after the match.

The 23-year-old girl, who is a paramedical student was gangraped and battered in a moving bus in Delhi by six offenders. Her male friend was also beaten up before both were thrown out of the bus.

The girl is currently undergoing treatment in Safdurjung Hospital, and Yuvraj said he was very disturbed by the inciden.

"I have read a lot about her and it is very disturbing and I am sure the whole of India is rooting for her and everybody is praying for her recovery."

She has sustained severe injuries as the men assaulted her with an iron rod after raping her. Having undergone a surgery to remove her gangrenous intestine, doctors said on Thursday evening that the girl passed an 'uneventful night'and is 'stable, alert and conscious'.

Doctors, who have been treating her, have termed her case as 'extremely unusual and extremely rare' and said they have never seen such grave injuries to the intestine in cases of sexual assault.
