As the beleaguered Indian cricket team, hoping for a turnaround in its fortunes in Australia, battles it out in the ODI tri-series, one of its key players is attempting nearly the same in a completely different field.

Yuvraj Singh, India's premier batsman in the limited-overs' format, was diagnosed with lung cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy in the United States. It's a complete reversal in fortunes for the Punjab left-hander, who nearly a year ago, played a stellar role in India's World Cup triumph.

Now, he faces the most difficult challenge of his life.

That the tumour was detected in the first stage itself and will not require surgery must have come as a big relief to his family, friends and fans. In fact, his physiotherapist, Dr Jatin Chaudhary, has assured that Yuvi will be fit and back on the cricket field as early as May.

Yuvi's fighting qualities will see him through

Chemotherapy can be very tough; a life-turning experience, but one is confident that the all-rounder's fighting qualities, which have seen him win so many matches for India, will take him through the toughest phase of his life.

Who can forget his six sixes in a over off England's Stuart Broad in the 2007 Twenty20 World Cup, or magic with both bat and ball in the World Cup last year?

'Get well soon, Yuvraj! Our prayers are with you,' is what every Indian seems to be saying at the moment.

Let us all wish Yuvi the best in his battle against cancer, and pray he makes a speedy recovery and returns to the team at the earliest.
