Australian Twenty20 captain George Bailey has said that a depleted T20 squad against the West Indies may compromise Australia’s chances for the 2014 T20 World Cup.

Bailey was reportedly frustrated over the repeated dropping of cricketers from the T20 squad following the assembling of the 17-member Australian squad in India for the upcoming Tests, the Age reported.

George BaileyBailey said that although he understood Cricket Australia’s prioritizing the Test series, there are still 7 or 8 games left until the T20 World Cup to be held in Bangladesh, which may compromise the preparation for the game.

He added that Australia needed to prepare hard if the rumours of a change to the 2014 World Cup format prove to be true, coupled with the expansion of the teams from 12 to 16.

Bailey feared that fans for Wednesday’s T20 game would be disappointed at the hike in ticket prices if they do not see their favourite players playing in the game. Bailey’s team for the one-off T20 international may be depleted further after Queensland batsman Joe Burns was called in on Monday as cover for Adam Voges, who has left because of a hamstring injury.

Burns is in line to make his international debut along with the likes of WA quick Nathan Coulter-Nile and NSW batsman Ben Rohrer on Wednesday.
