Mahela Jayawardene, back to his openers role blossomed with a sparking century to lead Sri Lanka to a convincing 161-run victory against India in the third match of the tri-nation series in Jamaica, on Tuesday.

Jayawardene hit a 112-ball 107 and was ably supported by Upul Tharanga, who hit a career best 174 as the duo put on 213 runs for the opening wicket.

Starting off on an aggressive note, Jayawardene took the attack to the opposition smashing Umesh Yadav for consecutive boundaries in the eighth over.

Jayawardene, who was dropped by Murali Vijay off Ravindra Jadeja at the personal score of 25, cashed in on the chance and played sensibly thereafter to reach his fifty from 60 balls with the help of four boundaries and one six.

Jayawardene was caught by Yadav at short thirdman after the batsman attempted the reverse sweep.

His brilliant knock included nine boundaries and two massive sixes.

India succumbed to the pressure of chasing the huge target and were bundled out for a paltry 187 in 44.5 overs.
