Former England captain Mike Gatting has said that fighting corruption is one of the biggest challenges that modern cricket is facing today.

Mike GattingAccording to www.PakPassion.net, Gatting called for the need to ensure the complete wipe-out of corruption from the game given that it is one of the major challenges facing cricket nowadays, adding that corruption aspects like fixing and gambling destroys the fabric of the term ''a gentleman''s game''.

However, Gatting admitted that corruption cannot be stopped unless cricketers become aware of their responsibilities of what they should do if they approached with illegal requests, adding that it is to be hoped that a solution is found to stop players from accepting illegal cash for once and for all.

Gatting, who played 79 Tests before his retirement in 1995 with 4,409 runs at an average of 35.55, is also notorious for courting controversy twice, once because of the Shakoor Rana incident in 1987 and then due to his role in the rebel tours of South Africa in 1990.
