CLT20 PHOTOS: Broom's century propels Otago to big win over Perth

Neil Broom blasted an unbeaten century to help Otago Volts outclass Perth Scorchers by a big margin of 62 runs in their Champions League Twenty20 match in Jaipur, on Wednesday.

Broom slammed 117 from just 56 balls to help Otago amass a massive 242 for four in their 20 overs, to record the highest total in the history of the Champions League.

In reply, Perth finished on 180 for six with Hilton Cartwright top scoring with 73.

Paris rocks Otago with early wickets

Young pacer Joel Paris rocked Otago early with the wickets of Hamish Rutherford and Brendon McCullum off successive deliveries.

Rutherford was leg before wicket for two and McCullum also fell in the same fashion for a first-ball duck in the third over of the innings.

Ten Doeschate, Broom destroy Otago

Broom and Derek de Boorder steadied the Otago innings after the early wickets with a 67-run partnership before the latter was dismissed for 45.

Broom and Ryan ten Doeschate followed that up with a blazing 128-run partnership for the fourth wicket in just eight overs to put Otago in control.

Ten Doeschate smashes quickfire fifty

Ten Doeschate continued his good form as he smashed his way to a fiery 26-ball 66, laced with three fours and six sixes.

The all-rounder was caught by Liam Davis off Jason Behrendorff in the 18th over.

Broom lifts Otago to a mammoth 242-4

Broom reached 95 with a six off paceman Paris and reached the three-figure mark with another big shot as he hit three successive sixes in that over.

Such was the impact of the Broom's electrifying knock, which is the third highest individual score in the tournament's history, that Otago hit as many as 94 runs in the last five overs.

Only Australian batsman David Warner (135 and 123), who has two centuries two his credit in CLT20, is ahead of Broom in the Champions League.

Butler's double blow cripples Perth

Otago pacer Ian Butler crippled Perth at the start with two wickets in the first over of the innings.

Liam Davis was dismissed off the first ball caught by Rutherford before Ashton Agar was caught by wicketkeeper Derek de Boorder for 10.

Captain Simon Katich was run out for a duck to leave Perth reeling on 11 for three in the second over.

Cartwright's fifty goes in vain

Hilton Cartwright hit a quickfire 73 from 54 balls but his effort went in vain as Perth finished on 180 for five to lose by 62 runs.

Butler was the most successful bowler for Otago as he claimed three for 47 in four overs, while Nathan McCullum took one for 29.
