Global media has hailed New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum as 'the best batsman in the world' for his blistering knock of 195 runs against Sri Lanka in Christchurch.

English media deemed McCullum international cricket player of the week, the Australians labelled him as 'a mould unto himself' and Asian cricket writers suggested that he is the best batsman in the world.

International media showered the skipper with praise after his team's Test win over Sri Lanka, after McCullum's team demolished the islanders within four days, Stuff.co.nz reported.

McCullum's record-breaking innings was hailed around the world as the skipper capped a remarkable year for himself and his team.

McCullum forced the Australian media to take notice as there was reportedly a headline in an Australian publication that 'You'd be smiling too if you could block balls for six' with the quirky article describing the skipper's unique qualities.

The Australian media claimed that McCullum used to be a devastating wicketkeeper-batsman in the Adam Gilchrist mould but is now a devastating batsman in the Brendon McCullum mould.

An Asian media house suggested that McCullum was 'the best batsman in the world' currently and his leadership had helped New Zealand emerge as the game's most improved side.

Moreover, an English publication named McCullum as its player of the week for the skipper's efforts in setting up victory in the Boxing Day Test.
