New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum and B J Watling broke the world record for the highest sixth-wicket partnership after a 352-run stand against India in the ongoing second Test, in Wellington, on Monday.
McCullum and Watling scored 229 not out and 124 runs respectively to better the previous record of 351, which was put together by Sri Lanka's Mahela Jayawardene and Prasanna Jayawardene in 2009 against India.
The pair's marathon stand came to an end when latter was trapped leg before by Mohammed Shami in the first over after the new ball was taken on the fourth day of the match.
In the course of the partnership, McCullum became only the sixth player in history and first from New Zealand to score two double centuries in back-to-back Tests.
This was also McCullum's third double hundred, all coming against India.
Watling joined McCullum on Sunday when New Zealand were tottering at 94 for the loss of five wickets.
At stumps on Day 4, McCullum was unbeaten on 281, as the Kiwis amassed a formidable 571-6.
