Swashbuckling South Africa captain AB de Villiers has become a father after wife Danielle gave birth to a baby boy on Wednesday afternoon.

A visibly delighted De Villiers posed for photos with his newborn.

"We all feel very blessed and grateful. Mother and son are both doing well," de Villiers was quoted as saying.

It was Danielle's father, who first shared pictures of the baby on Facebook. "Today I became a grandfather! Abraham Benjamin De Villiers (III) was born at 12:01 and weighed 3.2Kg. He is a good looking and healthy boy," the post read.

The 31-year-old missed the Bangladesh Test series as he had asked for paternity leave.

De Villiers popped the question to Danielle Swart in front of the historic Taj Mahal.

The symbol of love in Agra proved lucky for South Africa's skipper as the got two engaged shortly in 2012 and married later.
