MS Dhoni It was a historic day for Bangladesh as they thumped a full-strength Indian team in front of a boisterous Mirpur crowd on Thursday.

Mirpur ODI: Shakib, Mustafizur help Bangladesh thrash India

The hosts handed India a humiliating 79-runs defeat in the first One-day international of the three-match series.

India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni could only manage to say that the hosts were the better side and played ‘some really good cricket as a unit’.

The two-time World champions were brought down to earth. Bangladesh outsmarted India in all departments of the game and extracted a sweet revenge for their quarter-final defeat at the hands of the same opponents in the World Cup earlier this year.

Chasing an imposing 308 for victory, the Indians made a steady start before losing wickets in a heap and were bundled out for 228, with four overs to spare.

"Bangladesh played some very good cricket; from very first ball they took on our bowlers. They were brave enough to play the big shots and it paid off," a disappointed Dhoni said after the match.

“The rain break helped us as it seemed that they would score more than 330, but we managed to restrict them to 300. Our batting didn't turn up the way we wanted it to,” he added.

India's skipper did not hide his disappointment over the performance of his pace department.

"The spinners bowled well; Raina's contribution was important, but I am disappointed with the way the fast bowlers bowled," Dhoni said.

He also praised the performance of Bangladesh's four-pronged pace attack.

"I am particularly impressed with how subtly they changed their pace. They didn't bowl 140 and then 110, but took it down marginally. They did well in the World Cup because of their fast bowlers, so we were not surprised they relied on their strength tonight."
