Team India will set off for Bangladesh in around two weeks, but the search for its new coach is yet to begin.
Board of Control for Cricket in India secretary Anurag Thakur said a shortlist of names of individuals who are interested in taking over from Duncan Fletcher, whose contract expired at the end of World Cup, is yet to be made.
"We are in the process of finalising the cricket advisory committee and also shortlisting the names of coaches who are available for the Indian cricket team. Once that process is completed we will be in a position to take a final call on the selection of coach for the Indian cricket team,” he said, in Mumbai, on Thursday.
Interestingly, Thakur also claimed that the other supporting positions of the team management will also be reviewed.
Currently, Sanjay Bangar, Bharat Arun and R Sridhar are the batting, bowling and fielding coaches respectively.
"We are looking at all the positions, whether it is the main coach or the support staff," Thakur added.
He also refused to commit whether the team will travel to Bangladesh without a head coach or have Ravi Shastri continuing as team director.
According to reports, Shastri will continue as team director with the three assistant coaches (Bangar, Arun and Sridhar) for the one-off Test and the three-match ODI series in Bangladesh.
"Good things come to those who wait. We are in the process of finalising the coach. It may take some time, but we want to pick the right coach for the Indian cricket team who can deliver in the coming years."
He reiterated that the BCCI is keen on getting some former cricketers, like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly, involved to help take Indian cricket forward.
"We are very clear that we want to utilise the services of former cricketers who can give some time to the BCCI for the promotion of game of cricket.
"We can share ideas, they can give their opinions; they can also be advisers to the Board. We want to involve them. We want to improve the standard of our domestic cricket to improve our performance overseas in the overall interest of Indian cricket,” he said.
