The naming of India’s new coach deferred with the Board of Control for Cricket in India's Cricket Advisory Committee announcing on Monday that the decision will take place on a future date after discussions with captain Virat Kohli.

"What we have decided is that we will hold on for time being the announcement of the coach. We need a few days more and talk to a few more player especially the captain and then make an announcement because we feel that there is no hurry at the moment," CAC committee member Ganguly said in Mumbai on Monday.

Virender Sehwag, Ravi Shastri, Tom Moody, Richard Pybus and Lalchand Rajput were the five shortlisted candidates who were interviewed by the three member CAC committee comprising of omprising of Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman and Sachin Tendulkar, with the latter joining the meeting via Skype.

Sehwag was the only candidate who was interviewed in person at the BCCI head office in Mumbai, while the rest of the candidates were spoken to on Skype.

"We are not in a hurry. We are not only looking at the Sri Lanka tour because Sri Lanka is a long tour. What is important for us is that all of them are concerned, we are not going to play, it is the coach and the captain and we are just part of it. We want to make sure that everybody is in synchronization of the way forward and then Indian cricket moves forward. We shouldn’t be seeing again six months down the line doing something different," former India captain Ganguly stated.

"We want to make sure that everybody is on the same page before we make the announcement because once we make the announcement it has to be till the World Cup (in 2019)," he added.
