Sri Lankan team manager Asanka Gurusinha admitted that young seamer Dasun Shanaka trying to tamper the ball on the second day of the second cricket Test against India was an "error of judgement", which he has been made aware about.

Shanaka was seen trying to pick the seam of the ball in the 50th over of India's first innings, for which he was docked 75 per cent of his match fees by ICC Match Referee David Boon.

Shanaka admitted to match referee that he did try to "alter the condition of match ball".

When quizzed if Shanaka was frustrated with no help from the track, Gurusinha said: "It is actually error of judgement on Dasun's part. Just one over it happened. None of the team members knew that and it wasn't planned or anything. He is very remorseful about what had happened. He takes full responsibility for that."

Gurusinha said that senior players in the team have spoken to Shanaka making him aware of the implications.

"The senior players have spoken to him. He needs support. He is a young kid and this is his third Test match. The team has got disciplinary guidelines and he has to follow that. I don't want to go into details. We had a chat with Match Referee. We have seen all of that. The best thing for the team is to let it go," concluded the member of the 1996 World Cup campaign.

The charge against Shanaka was laid by on-field umpires Joel Wilson and Richard Kettleborough, third umpire Nigel Llong and fourth umpire Chettithody Shamshuddin after the end of second day's play.
