'Dirty' Kuala Lumpur unfit to host Games, says paper

With only 68 days to go for the Commonwealth Games, host city Kuala Lumpur is not up to the mark in terms of cleanliness.

Or so a leading daily newspaper here has said, in an editorial.

The New Sunday Times urged authorities to immediately form citizen's groups in a bid to make the environment presentable for the thousands of visitors expected here during the Games.

"Sad to say, evidence of unsightly clutter and indiscriminate littering is still overwhelming,'' said the paper, which normally reflects government policy.

It said that although authorities have started to place more garbage bins in strategic public places, there are still areas without them.

Inefficient refuse collection is another contributory factor,'' the newspaper said.
