Aus eves down England again

Australia, world champions in women's cricket, demonstrated why with a comprehensive 64-run win over England's eves, to take a 2-0 lead in the current series.

Batting first, Australia made what looked like a modest 204 for six in the allotted 50 overs, Lisa Keightley playing the anchor with 59 off 99 balls while Melanie Jones, running a fine vein of form, made 58 off 75 deliveries.

Lucy Pearson, being touted as a player for the future, debuted for England in this game and got Aussie skipper Belinda Clark LBW with her fourth ball.

The Australian bowlers and, more particularly, fielders defended the modest total so well, that three of England's top players were run out. England were thoroughly outplayed, and went down despite a fighting 44 off 71 from skipper Karen Smithies.
