Javed is willing!

Former Pakistan Test captain Javed Miandad on Wednesday expressed his willingness to coach the national side.

Miandad was responding to a direct query by the Pakistan board, regarding his availability to take up the job. "I told them I would serve the country to the best of my abilities," Miandad said.

The turnover of coaches (and captains, come to think of it) has been pretty high, for the Pak side. Mushtaq Mohammad, in fact, has had two stints in the role, and Haroon Rasheed, the last of the incumbents, quit in May, since when Pak has been without a coach.

The final decision will be taken at a PCB meeting later this month. At which time, it is also expected that Aamir Sohail will replace Rashid Latif as team captain, following the latter's none too impressive outing in South Africa recently.

Miandad said that he believed he could help the team get back to peak efficiency. "Now its up to the board to decide, but I think I can help the players a great deal," the 41-year-old said.
