It's India versus Sri Lanka, again

Yesteryears' stars, like Sandip Patil, Duleep Mendis, Ravi Shastri, Krish Srikkanth and Sanjay Manjrekar will be seen in action when India Seniors clash with their Lankan counterparts in a five match one day series for the 'Freedom Cup'.

Organised to celebrate 50 years of Independence for both countries, the tournament will be played from August 25 to September 2.

The series will also be used to mark the inauguration of the Senior Cricket Association of India, its president Sandip Patil said in New Delhi.

Patil will lead the Indian seniors, while Sri Lanka will be led by Duleep Mendis, recently installed as manager of the national squad.

The likes of Manjrekar, Pravin Amre, Srikkanth, Kiran More, Shastri, Sidhath Wettimuny, Lalith Kaluperuma, Asanta De Mel, Somachandra D'Silva and Rumesh Ratnayake have already confirmed participation.

Mendis, also present at the press conference, said that the Sri Lankans would be keen to take the Cup and thus go one up. "We took India's Independence Cup, you took ours, so now we have a chance to go one up again," he explained.
