Indo-Pak masala games in August

Indian and Pakistani cricketers will figure in three one-day exhibition matches in the Gulf in mid-August, according to the Khaleej Times.

As per the report, the Indian side is to be led by Mohammad Azharuddin, while Rashid Latif will helm the Pakistan squad.

The games are scheduled to be held in Muscat, on August 12, Dubai on August 14 and Doha on August 15.

Billed as "Indo Pak Thrillers", the games are to be telecast live on Sony Television, which had, as part of its bid to edge into the cricket telecast market, telecast the recent exhibition match in Lord's for the Diana Memorial benefit.

Major Aref Ibrahim Mohammad, Dubai-based sponsor of the tournament, said that the matches were aimed at celebrating the Independence of India and Pakistan.

"The games will not qualify as official ODIs, but the two sides will be packed with their regular players, and entertaining the crowds will be the theme," Mohammad said, adding that he had secured permission from the respective boards.

The organisers also have plans for a five match series between the women's sides of both nations, at an as yet unspecified date. These games will be played in Muscat, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha and Kuwait.
