BCCI election challenged in court

Faisal Shariff

Representatives of the Inderjit Singh Bindra faction have filed a case against the election to the post of president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, which took place at the Rambagh Palace, Jaipur, today.

The case, citing numerous procedural violations, seeks to set aside the election of A C Muthiah as BCCI president.

One of the important reasons cited is that M Ranga Reddy, secretary of the Hyderabad Cricket Association, was not allowed to exercise his franchise.

Bindra told rediff.com on telephone from Jaipur that his candidate, Manohar Joshi, a vice-president of the BCCI, had majority support in the board's general body, but the procedural violations prevented a free and fair election.

He said the board officials blatantly violated the organisation's constitution. "I will now fight this in court," Bindra said.
