E-Mail this report to a friend

The Indian selectors today appointed Saurav Chandi Ganguly captain for the one-day series with South Africa and the triangular to follow in Sharjah and recalled Mohammad Azharuddin and Sadagoppan Ramesh for the next Test to be played in Bangalore. V V S Laxman and Ajay Jadeja have been dropped.

Though Azharuddin was selected for the first Test, he dropped out at the last moment after injuring a thumb.

The second Test begins on March 2, while the first one-day match will be played in Cochin on March 9.

The triangular Coca-Cola Cup series in Sharjah, involving Pakistan and South Africa apart from India, begins with an India-South Africa tie on March 22.
