Mhambrey, Kuruvilla skittle out Saurashtra

Yesterday, medium-pacers Paras Mhambrey and Abey Kuruvilla turned in a fine display with the bat to ensure that Bombay posted a respectable total in their first innings to make a fight of their match against Saurashtra in the West Zone Ranji Trophy league match at the Wankhede stadium in Bombay. Today, the duo again teamed up - but with the ball - to skittle out the visitors for a paltry 183 runs and help Bombay take a handy first innings lead of 114 runs on the second day of their four-day match.

Mhambrey followed up on yesterday's unbeaten knock of 65 with a three-wicket haul while Kuruvilla took four wickets for 28 runs in his third spell to finish with figures of 5 for 47 as Saurashtra, chasing Bombay's 297, were all out in 62.2 overs.

Firoz Bambhania, with 59, was the top scorer for the visitors. After being dropped by Wasim Jaffer off medium pacer Santosh Saxena when on 9 he batted patiently for three hours and along with Manoj Parmar (32) put on 80 runs for the sixth wicket to help Saurashtra recover from 44 for 5 to 124.

Later, Kuruvilla's burst had Saurashtra in danger of following-on at 140 for nine before the last-wicket pair of Rajesh Garsondia (25) and Kamal Chavda (15) dashed whatever hopes Bombay may have entertained with a stubborn stand of 43 runs.

At stumps, Bombay were 53 for the loss of opener Wasim Jaffer's wicket. Jaffer was leg before to Garsondia for 11. Amol Rane was not out on 15.
