NZ-Windies match abandoned

Persistent drizzle caused play to be abandoned in the fourth one-day international between the West Indies and New Zealand in Wellington on today.

Play was called off at 3.30 pm (local time) after New Zealand won the toss and sent the West Indies into bat. Only 10.5 overs were completed before rain halted play.

The West Indies will resume at 47 for one on the reserve day, Sunday. They lost opener Shivnarine Chanderpaul for 7, caught by Roger Twose off a Chris Cairns delivery.

Play is scheduled to start at 10.30 am (local time), with weather forecasters saying conditions will improve.

The prospects for the day's play looked bleak after 90 minutes of persistent drizzle. New Zealand lead the five-match series 3-0, with the last match in Christchurch on Tuesday.

The match is being played at Wellington's new 35,000 all-seated stadium, the first international game to be played there and not at the city's Basin Reserve.
