Haldipur, Karim stars of East

Opener Nikhil Haldipur and Saba Karim scored brilliant centuries to enabled East Zone score a seven wicket victory over Central Zone in the Deodhar Trophy match at the IPCL Complex in Baroda today.

Chasing Central Zone's imposing score of 305 for 7 in 50 overs, East hit up the required runs, scoring 309 for three in just 40.1 overs.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Central, aided by a fine 128 from Jai Yadav, put together what looked to be a winning total. However, East made a spirited chase to claim the day's honours.

Haldipur hit an unbeaten 127 off just 11 balls while Karim also hit an unbeaten 102 off 89 balls.

Utpal Chatterjee, the former India spinner, was East's most successful bowler. He claimed four wickets for 53 runs from ten overs.
