India beat Lanka, finish on top

India today beat Sri Lanka by 41 runs in their concluding match of the Super League to take the top spot in Group II in the under-19 cricket World Cup in Colombo.

Batting first, India scored 242 for seven in 50 overs thanks to some fine batting by Reetinder Singh Sodhi (74), N K Patel (43) and Yuvraj Singh (36). In reply, Sri Lanka were all out for 201 in 45.4 overs.

Indian skipper Mohammad Kaif wrecked the Lanka innings to finish with figures of 3 for 29 from 7.4 overs.

The result was of little consequence as both teams made it to the semi-finals where India take on Australia and Sri Lanka meet Pakistan.

In other league matches, Australia routed New Zealand by 69 runs, while Pakistan scored a three-wicket victory over the West Indies.

Replying to Australia's total of 122 all out in 42.2 overs, the Kiwis crashed in 27 overs for 53 runs.

In the Pakistan - West Indies match, Pakistan, chasing 182 (49.4 overs), hit 185 for 7 in 43.1 overs.
