Sampras, Davenport, Seles, Arantxa in fourth round

Six times Wimbledon champion Pete Sampras on Saturday battled injury and fellow American Justin Gimelstob successfully to reach the fourth round of Wimbledon. He won 2-6, 6-4, 6-2, 6-2.

However, French Open champion Gustavo Kuerten suffering from a cold could not make it past big-hitting German Alexander Popp. The popular Brazilian lost 7-6, 6-2, 6-1.

In the women's draw, Monica Seles is slated to clash with Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario in the fourth round on Monday in what is expected to be an interesting match. This will be the first time they will be playing each other on grass. Seles has beaten Arantxa 18 times in their previous 21 matches.

On Saturday, sixth seed Seles beat Sarah Pitkowski of France 6-0, 6-3.

In complete contrast to his five-setter against Todd Martin in the second round, world number one Andre Agassi did not waste time dispatching Frenchman Jerome Golmard 6-3, 6-3, 6-4.

Australian Patrick Rafter beat German Rainer Schuettler 6-2, 7-6, 6-3. Englishman Tim Henman also made it to the last 16 beating Moroccan Hicham Arazi 6-3, 6-3, 6-3.

Another interesting match is on the anvil when defending champion Lindsay Davenport of the United States will face compatriot Jennifer Capriati. Davenport, who has been hassled by injuries lately, defeated Argentine Paola Suarez 6-4, 6-2 to make it to the last 16.

Fifth seed Venus Williams beat Nathalie Dechy of France 6-0, 7-6 to join sister Serena in the last 16.
