Ponting, Gillespie recalled

Australia today recalled Ricky Ponting and Jason Gillespie for next month's limited-overs series against South Africa.

Ponting, who has not played for Australia since injuring his ankle in a one-day match against Pakistan in February, returns at the expense of top-order batsman Matthew Hayden, while Gillespie, sidelined since September last year when he fractured his leg and wrist in a collision with Steve Waugh, comes in for injured paceman Damien Fleming.

The World champions will play South Africa in the first indoor series at Melbourne's Colonial stadium. The three matches, on August 16, 18 and 20, will be played with the stadium's retractable roof closed.

The Australian squad: Michael Bevan, Adam Gilchrist, Jason Gillespie, Ian Harvey, Brett Lee, Shane Lee, Damien Martyn, Glenn McGrath, Ricky Ponting, Andrew Symonds, Shane Warne, Mark Waugh, Steve Waugh.
