Dayle Hadlee to examine Brett Lee

The Rediff Team

Dayle Hadlee, elder brother of bowling great Sir Richard Hadlee, is to examine the bowling action of Aussie speedster Brett Lee.

A member of the 12-strong International Cricket Council advisory committee on illegal deliveries, the former Kiwi pace bowler will be sent a videotape of Lee bowling against New Zealand in the Test series last season.

Hadlee, who will relay his opinion via a conference call next week, will download images of Lee's bowling action from tape into the New Zealand Cricket Board's bio-mechanical analysis machine at Lincoln University, Christchurch, to break it down.

"I've put a lot of time looking into analysing bowling actions bio-mechanically, but this has a sharp edge to it," Hadlee said.

Dayle Hadlee, a bowling coach of some repute in his own right and the man who helped Dion Nash and Chris Cairns find their bowling teeth, said that he had already formed an impression from watching Lee bowl, which he declined to divulge because it would be prejudicial.

Indian umpires Srinivas Venkataraghavan and Arani Jayaprakash had earlier questioned Lee's action.

The panel will debate Lee's action, with the bowler and his representative taking part. The findings of the panel will then be referred to the Australian Cricket Board.

Lee hopes to be cleared to play against South Africa in a limited-overs international series next month.
