Automatic qualification for KenyaThe International Cricket Council has announced that Kenya will qualify automatically for future World Cups. Hinting that Kenya might host some of the matches in the 2003 World Cup, to be held in South Africa, ICC CEO David Richards said, "Since we granted Kenya one-day status two years ago, the country has made tremendous progress in improving the standard of the game." Speaking at the launch of the ICC knock-out tournament, scheduled for October 3-16 in Nairobi, Richards said, "The next step is for Kenya to be granted Test status. Richards said Kenya's chances of being granted Test status will depend on how efficiently they organise the ICC knock-out event, the biggest tournament in the ICC calendar this year. Kenya has already appeared in two previous World Cups but has had to compete in the ICC trophy.
