India under-15 lose opener

Reigning champions India were beaten by hosts England by 81 runs in their opening match of the Costcutter under-15 cricket World Cup at Upper Club, Eton, on Sunday.

Replying to England's score of 245 for 9 wickets from 50 overs, the Indians were bewitched by the spinning prowess of Dan Broadbent (3 for 23) and Jamie Beaumont (1 for 26), and were all out for 164 from 46 overs. Fast bowler Chris Goode wiped off the latter half of the batting, claiming four wickets for eight runs in four overs.

Opener Ambati Rayudu, who scored 34 in 26 balls, was the top scorer for the Indians.

In other matches, the West Indies overwhelmed Holland by nine wickets at Agar's Plough. The Dutch, seven for five at one stage, were all out for 31. Ravindranath Rampual bagged seven wickets for 11 runs from 8.3 overs, and S Liburd picked three for 17 runs from eight overs. The West Indies replied with 32 for 1 in just 7.2 overs.

At Wellington, South Africa beat Pakistan by 39 runs, while Sri Lanka crushed Zimbabwe by 192 runs, with leg-spinner Ranesh Nishan claiming seven wickets for for eight runs.
