Saba Karim undergoes surgery

Bengal and India wicketkeeper Syed Saba Karim, who was admitted to the Shankar Netralaya eye clinic in Madras after being hit by the ball below his right eye while 'keeping in the opening match of the Asia Cup against Bangladesh, underwent emergency glaucoma surgery on the affected eye on Thursday.

Disclosing the news, Dr Lingam Gopal, who is treating him at the hospital, said there is nothing to worry as "Karim is in the road to recovery". He said surgery was necessarry to contain the pressure which developed on the eye suddenly.

Dr Gopal was not sure when Karim would be discharged. "We will have to wait for two or three days," he said.
