Cronje to do a full monty

By our correspondent in Cape Town

Hansie Cronje is on the verge of blowing a few reputations, both national and international, sky-high.

The disgraced South African former captain has, sources indicate, given a full, written confession to his lawyers as a prelude to his upcoming testimony before the Judge Edwin King Commission now probing match-fixing in South Africa.

Simultaneously, Cronje has submitted all bank statements and other financial records in his possession, to the Commission.

It is in order to study the documents that King abruptly stopped his hearings, at noon on Tuesday, and chosen to reconvene it at 9.30 AM local time Thursday, with Cronje himself taking the stand at that time.

The stresses and strains of recent events are believed to have impacted adversely on Cronje's health, however, and this could possibly delay his appearance before the Commission.

However, word coming out of Cronje's legal team is that the former captain has in his confession blown the whistle on a few big names in international cricket, and will testify to his full knowledge when he finally takes the stand.

There is speculation that at least some of the names Cronje will take on stand are those of Indian players.
