Media back Live Africa's action for audio access to King CommissionPaul Martin CainerFrom Paul Martin Cainer, CEO and editor-in-chief, Live Africa and Sport Africa..... corresponding for rediff.com Live Africa Network News (LANN) -- bringing an application today to ensure live radio coverage of the King Commission -- has had massive support from across the country's media sector. Not only have other broadcasters been vociferous in their backing for its stand in favour of freedom of information, but so too have its colleagues in the print media. The country's major State broadcaster, the South African Broadcasting Corporation, has just announced that it too is to join Live Africa's application today in the Cape High Court against Judge King's restrictions on the electronic media. From all this backing it is clear that the media sector as a whole believes that a major constitutional right is at stake. LANN, on behalf of itself and the sector and millions of listeners, says it will act vigorously to enforce these rights for the benefit of the listening public. Live Africa plans to continue its live radio coverage of the hearings, made available to all broadcasters, should it win the legal action today (Monday). It will be carried live by rediff.com, which also carried LANN's signal during Cronje's opening statement last Thursday. After that statement Judge King adjourned the hearings, so that the key cross-examination will only take place after the High Court rules on Live Africa's application.
