Saba Karim set to return

Wicketkeeper Syed Saba Karim, who sustained a serious eye injury while playing in the Asia Cup last month, is all set to return to action.

The India 'keeper, talking to reporters at the Sankara Nethralaya hospital in Madras on Friday, said he will resume training in a couple of weeks, and wear a helmet fitted with a visor while keeping wickets.

'Injuries are part of the game," Karim said, adding he always took them in his stride.

Karim was struck on the right eye by a delivery from leg-spinner Anil Kumble that deflected off Bangladeshi batsman Habibul Bashar's pad in the opening match of the Asia Cup in May 30.

Dr Lingam Rajagopal, who supervised his treatment, said Karim was admitted on June 1 with retinal oedema and inflammation, but complications set in due to increase in intra-ocular pressure, a condition known as glaucoma. He was operated upon for glaucoma.

Karim said he will leave for Calcutta on June 26 and, after resuming training in the second week of July, will play for MRF in the Buchi Babu and Moin-ud-Dowla tournaments.
