Pakistan beat Lanka by an innings and 163 runsPakistan beat Sri Lanka by an innings and 163 runs, to take a winning 2-0 lead in the three-Test series, at the Galle International cricket stadium Saturday. Sri Lanka were dismissed for 256 while chasing 419 to avoid an innings defeat, in reply to Pakistan's first innings score of 600 for eight. Pakistan won the first Test by five wickets on June 17. The men responsible for Pakistan's triumph were none other than old warhorses Waqar Younis and Wasim Akram, who together shared six wickets as Pakistan won with a day to spare. Waqar finished with four for 40, Akram captured two for 53, including top scorer Arjuna Ranatunga for 65, and off-spinner Arshad Khan took two wickets in 13 balls to start Sri Lanka's decline from 123 for two. Akram's bowling, allied to his blazing innings of exactly 100 off 89 balls, won him the man-of-the-match award for the second consecutive Test. The third and final match starts in Kandy next Wednesday. When Sri Lanka resumed at the overnight 45 for one, Marvan Atapattu led the resistance by making 59 before he became the first of Arshad's two strikes in quick succession. Opener Atapattu gave Pakistan captain and wicketkeeper Moin Khan a simple catch and Aravinda de Silva was caught at forward short leg by Mohommad Wasim off Arshad for 11. Mahela Jayawardene and Romesh Kaluwitharana were both given out lbw for nine to Akram and Younis respectively as the pace pair used reverse swing to good effect. Sri Lanka had subsided to 189 for six at tea but prolonged the end thanks mainly to Ranatunga and a flourish from Muttiah Muralitharan. Muralitharan hit 22, including four fours in an over from medium pacer Azhar Mahmood, before he was bowled by Waqar to wrap up victory. Scoreboard
