World Sport Group, News Corp. win World Cup rights

ICC Development (International) Ltd. announced in Paris today the appointment of World Sport Group and News Corporation to represent the sale of commercial rights to major cricket events, including the 2003 World Cup in South Africa and the 2007 World Cup in the West Indies.

The first event in the contract will be the ICC knock-out tournament in Nairobi (3rd - 15th October, 2000) and then on a two-year cycle. It will also cover the Under-19 World Cups in 2002, 2004 and 2006, and the two ICC Trophy tournaments in 2001 and 2005.

The member countries considered two excellent final bids from Zee Multimedia Worldwide, supported by Trans World International, and WSG/News Corporation.

WSG/News Corporation will pay, over the seven-year life of the contract, a minimum guarantee of US$ 550 million.
