Dalmiya to head Asian Cricket Fund Committee

Jagmohan Dalmiya, who stepped down this week as president of the International Cricket Council after a three-year term, was chosen to head newly set-up Asian Cricket Fund Committee.

At a meeting of the Asian Cricket Council in London Tuesday night, Dalmiya's named was proposed by Lt Gen Tauqir Zia, president of the Pakistan Cricket Board, who also is the current chairman of the Asian Cricket Council.

The Asian Cricket Fund Committee will be in charge of planning and management of cricket events in Asia, sources said.

ACF will also be responsible for generating financial resources and marketing. One of the important functions of the committee will be to allocate resources from the funds generated for human welfare.

The Asian Cricket Council will have its own secretariat as soon as it raises enough funds.

The Indo-Pak unity, on various aspects of cricket issues which cropped up during the ICC Annual General Meeting and the Executive Board Meeting in Paris, was very significant, the sources said.

They also supported each other in every move, but both Gen Zia and Dalmiya played down reports of any rift between white and non-white countries.

Everyone supported the demand voiced by Gen Zia and Dalmiya for a 50 per cent allocation of revenue to the cricketing countries from the knock-out tournament, the sources said.
