Nitin Kannamwar will be the first Indian to officiate in the Wimbledon men's singles final to be contested between Mark Phillippousis of Australia and Roger Federer of Switzerland at London on Sunday.
Kannamwar, who is also the coach of the Western Railway tennis team, is also the first Asian official from the Star Trek team, formed by the International Tennis Federation (ITF), to have got an opportunity to officiate in a Grand Slam final, a Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association (MSLTA) release said at Mumbai.
A former Maharashtra state player, Kannamwar is also a bronze badge umpire and a silver badge referee and has officiated as a chair umpire in the Australian, US, French Open and the Olympic Games, the release added.
Kannamwar, who was also the chief referee at the Busan Asian Games, has officiated in a number of ITF and ATP events.
