Indian women's tennis received a shot in the arm as second-ranked junior player Sanaa Bhambri broke through into the main draw of the French Open juniors after No 1 Sania Mirza's entry into the junior Grand Slam.
The 15-year-old, currently ranked 53 in the junior world ranking, joins Somdev Dev Varman, who got a berth in the boys' main draw at the Roland Garros.
Bhambri, who won her first round in a ITF Grade 1 Tournament in Belgium, was elated to hear the news of her inclusion in the main draw.
"I look forward to play in one of the most prestigious tournaments. This will be a good opportunity to prove my talent and also learn a lot by playing against the best players in the world," she said.
Bhambri is a part of the AITA Grand Slam Team to the French Open and the Wimbledon. The team, comprising Sania Mirza, Varman, Karan Rastogi and coach T. Chandrashekaran, is participating in six tournaments in Europe.
Rastogi, however, continues to be in the qualifying list for the French Open juniors.
