An Argentine first division goalkeeper said on Thursday that he wanted to leave the country after supporters of his own club threatened to kidnap his son.

Claudio Flores, a Uruguayan who plays for mid-table Lanus, told Argentine media on Thursday that he received the threats during Tuesday's goalless draw against Independiente.

"You get used to being insulted by the supporters but this could be something else," he was quoted as saying by the daily newspaper La Nacion and the website futbolargentino.com.

"This could be something else. Given the circumstances, I don't want to risk my family."

Flores, 27, said he heard the threats from fans behind his goal during the second half.

"They repeated my home address," he said. "They said they would kidnap my family. I played a few metres further out of my goal than usual so I didn't have to hear any more.

"When the match was over, I called home to see if everything was okay."

Flores, who joined the club three years ago from Penarol in his homeland, said he wanted to leave immediately, although he was prepared to stay in Argentina on his own and play the last three games of the championship if necessary.

Club directors told La Nacion newspaper that they would try and convince Flores to stay, offering him "maximum security."

They said they would use videos to try and identify the fans involved.
