Dwain Chambers, the European sprint champion accused of failing a test for a new steroid drug, has denied the "wilful" taking of any banned substance, his lawyer has said in a statement.
Chambers was named in a report in Wednesday's Guardian as having given a positive test for the newly discovered drug tetrahydrogestrinone (THG) which, until last week, was thought to be undetectable.
"He will not accept nor tolerate accusations that this was a wilful or calculated attempt on his part to deceive authorities," a statement read by his lawyer Graham Shear said.
Chambers was said by the lawyer to have failed an out-of-competition test in Germany.
