An angry Dempo Sports Club of Goa has lodged a police complaint against Karnataka State Football Association for "negligence" in extending timely treatment to their Brazilian striker Cristiano Junior who died during the Federation Cup final on Sunday.

The complaint was lodged by Dempo's Coach Armando Colaco, who said if Junior had been taken to the nearby Mallya hospital rather than Hosmat, which was two kms away from Shri Kanteerava Stadium, he could have been saved.

The complaint charged KSFA with medical negligence, a police official of Sampangiramanagar Police station told PTI.

Police said they have filed a case under section 304 (A) of IPC relating to negligence against KSFA.

Junior died after collapsing during the final against Mohun Bagan at Sree Kanteerava Stadium. Helped by Junior's two goals, Dempo had lifted the Federation Cup for the first time.

The tragedy plunged Dempo into a state of shock and disbelief. "We don't want the Cup, we want Junior. Can you bring back my Junior," asked a visibly shaken Colaco after the death of the star striker.
