An injury time goal by Fabio Soares helped Vasco hold Churchill Bros to a 1-1 draw in a 15th round match of the National Football League, at the Nehru stadium in Margao, Goa, on Sunday.

Churchill, who controlled the proceedings for major part of the match, surged ahead in the 27th minute when Yusif Yakubu tapped in a flag-kick by Roque Baretto.

Aqueel Ansari sold a dummy to Yakubu. As Vasco goalkeeper Virender Singh's vision was blocked by the players in the box, Yakubu, standing near the goalline, tapped the ball home.

Churchill could have easily taken full points from the encounter had their strikers converted the chances that came their way.

Yakubu, who was presented at least three more clear chances, failed to find the target while Vanal Rova also missed twice from close.

Vasco failed to play with conviction in the first half but showed a lot of fighting spirit in the latter part of the match.

After coming close to equalising on three occasions, they restored parity in injury time when Fabio Soares banged home from close following a pass from substitute Denis Cabral.

The draw took Churchill to 14 points from 15 matches while Vasco, who are below Churchill in 11th place, took their tally to 13 points from the same number of matches.
