Two early goals helped Salgaocar to tear Tollygunge Agragami's stubborn defence to shreds and register a resounding 5-1 victory in a third round match of the ninth National Football League in Margao, Goa, on Saturday.

The win took Salgaocar's tally to six points from three matches.

Tollygugne, who lost their first match, have four points from three matches. Salgaocar took the lead in the 17th minute through Jyothi Kumar, who scored on the rebound after rival custodian Sudip Sarkar fumbled with a shot from Felix Ibrebru.

The early goal spurred Salgaocar and they doubled the lead two minutes later through Ibrebru, who struck after a combined move by Rocus Lamare and Samson Singh.

Tollygunge reduced the margin when Salgaocar 'keeper Juje Siddi charged out to intercept a lob from Goweanga Dutta lob which eluded his outstretched hands for Suley Musah to score an opportunistic goal.

Tollyguge's defence looked shaky and Salgaocar punished them as they increased the lead five minutes before the interval. Francis Andrade's harmless cross from the right curled and eluded keeper Sarkar to find the back of the net. Ibrebru struck again eight minutes into the second half, latching on to a pass from Bernard Pires.

Pires, who received the man of the match award for his dominant role in the midfield, rounded off the tally when he uncorked a 25-yard right footer that nestled into the roof of the net.

Tollygunge, who came up with sporadic raids, with Suley Musah camping upfront, had two chances to score but first he failed with an open chance from close off a long lobby substitute Chinmoy Sarkar. Latter his well directed free-kick was put away by Siddi.
