Besiktas fine Ailton $100,000 for red card offence

Brazilian striker Ailton has been fined $100,000 by his Turkish club Besiktas after being sent off during their league match at Sivasspor on Saturday.

Ailton was shown the red card in the 24th minute after kicking an opponent in the groin.

"Ailton, who got a red card in the last league match against Sivasspor, has been fined $100,000," the Besiktas board said in a statement dated Nov. 28.

The team's French coach Jean Tigana said in Tuesday: "I did not see what happened with Ailton, but I will not criticise the referee's decision. If our player was shown a red card there, we have to believe the referee."

Besiktas also fined their Turkish international midfielder Koray Avci, who was sent off in stoppage time, $22,140.

Besiktas are fourth in the standings after beating Sivasspor 3-1. Both sides are on 22 points, 16 behind leaders Fenerbahce.
