Karan Rastogi upset fourth seed Lukasz Kubot of Poland 6-4, 6-1 to storm into the quarter-finals of the USD 25,000 Coffee Cup ATP Challenger in Chikmagalur on Thursday.

However, Indian Davis Cupper Rohan Bopanna crashed out of the event losing to Japan's Toshihide Matsui 6-7 (8-10), 4-6 at the Centenary Stadium courts.

A confident 19-year-old Rastogi played to a game-plan, dictating terms to his Polish opponent, who hardly bothered the Indian.

After losing the first set, Kubot tried to stage a comeback but Rastogi was in no mood to relent and emerged a deserving winner.

In the other match, seventh-seeded Bopanna, played well in the first set, sending down some pleasing shots and coming out with good serves.

The victory in the tie-break boosted the Japanese player's confidence and he raised his game several notches to put it across the Indian in the second set and enter the quarter-finals.

In other encounters, top-seeded Hyung-Taik Lee (Korea) defeated Marco Chuidinelli of Switzerland 6-4, 6-4, and Japan's Go Soeda beat Aleksander Vlaski of Serbia Montenegro 6-3, 2-6, 6-0.
