Kolkata's glamour outfit East Bengal got the better of JCT, Phagwara, 1-0 in a sixth round match in the 10th National Football League, in Ludhiana on Thursday.

East Bengal's victory was the result of an own-goal, in the ninth minute, when a JCT defender deflected the ball into his net.

JCT defender Narinder, in an attempt to clear East Bengal's Cameroon recruit Guy Ndem's shot from the right flank, deflected the ball into his own goal.

JCT coach Sukhwinder Singh, speaking after the match, said his team was unlucky to lose despite dominating.

"It was a kind of situation I never faced in my long football career. I am still at a loss to find out how the ball got into our net," he said.

The second half was dominated by JCT. There were excellent moves between Baldeep Singh and Marcos but the equaliser eluded them.

In one such attempt they sneaked through East Bengal's defence but squandered a good scoring opportunity.

With this victory East Bengal, who had two wins and three draws before this match, now have 12 points, while JCT have five.

The next NFL match in Ludhiana will be between JCT and Dempo, Goa, on February 7.
