CRPF's Anisha Vijayan and Tamil Nadu's V S Sureka hogged the limelight creating two meet records on the opening day of the 12th Federation Cup National Athletics Championship in New Delhi on Tuesday.

These two women athletes provided some spark and excitement on a day, which otherwise saw lackluster performances.

Twenty one-year-old Anisha thrilled the spectators as she cleared 13.57 in the triple jump event in her third attempt to erase Anju Bobby George's four-year-old meet record of 13.29. But Anisha's effort was well behind Anju's National record of 13.67.

However full credit to the CRPF official as her effort was equal to an Asian Games medal winning performance. It was also praiseworthy that all her jumps were plus 13 mts.

Pole Vaulter Sureka created a meet record with an effort of 3.85, which she achieved in her first attempt.

Sureka erased Chetna Solanki's last year's meet record of 3.80 but the Tamil Nadu vaulter narrowly missed to equal her own National record of 3.90, which she had set here, only 13 days back.

Kerala's Tessymol Joseph with a leap of 1.73 mts won the high jump gold, but she was nowhere near either the meet record (1.89) or the National record (1.91), both set by her state mate Bobby Aloysius.

Punjab's Manpreet Kaur with a below par throw of 14.49 won shot put gold but she was far behind her state mate Harbans Kaur's meet record (16.49) and National record (17.43).

Navy man R Mathew won the 110m hurdles in 14.63, while local thrower Herash Choudhary claimed the gold in Hammer with an effort of 63.51.

Army man Deep Chand and Kerala's Preeja Sredharan won Men and Women's 5000m race respectively.
