Leander Paes' parents Vece and Jennifer, on Sunday rejoiced his US Open triumph, and hoped that the success would help him keep his momentum going in the pro circuit.

"I am proud of my son," an elated Vece said from Kuala Lumpur, where he is now on an assignment with the Asian Cricket Council as a medical expert.

"Due to his lack of success, he was a trifle downcast. This win wil give him a big boost," he said, reacting to Paes and Martin Damn's victory in the US Open doubles final.

"Just watch out for him. There will be a new spring in his steps," said the hockey Olympian, who has been a friend, philospher and guide to his son all through his career.

Jennifer said that Paes now seemed imbued with new-found energy after becoming a father.

"I congratulate him," said Jennifer, herself a basketball player of repute, in past.

Former Davis Cupper Jaideep Mukerjea said the juniors should take lessons from Paes's exploits.

"I never thought he will be able to win a Grand Slam at such an advanced age. He is now 33. Showing such top form at this age is very difficult. How he keeps his motivation  going despite being in the circuit for so long, is something the younger players should ponder over," he said.
