Mohun Bagan came back from behind to pip arch-rivals East Bengal 2-1 in an exciting National Football League match in Kolkata on Sunday.

Douglas Silva Dos Santos struck the winner eight minutes from the final whistle to enable Bagan gain three valuable points and boost their tally to 16 points from 13 games.

Earlier, Brazilian Edmilson Marques put East Bengal in the lead before his compatriot Jose Barreto drew parity in the floodlit Salt Lake Stadium exchange, graced by FIFA president Joseph Blatter.

The world soccer governing body boss seemed to enjoy every minute of the match and left the ground only four minutes from the final whistle.

The match, which saw lovely passing and fast-paced soccer with the ball travelling from one end to the other frequently, gave the around 70,000 spectators their money's worth.

East Bengal, who remained on 22 points after 13 matches, went ahead in the 27th minute from a penalty. Referee gave the easiest of set pieces as Bagan goalkeeper Shilton Pal brought down an onrushing S Malswam T Luanga.

Edmilson made no mistake in converting the spot kick.

Bagan's equaliser came in the first half injury time when Barreto headed in a floater sent by Mehtab Hussain from the right.

Bagan's winner came in the 82nd minute as Douglas showed fine opportunism to head home a Lalkamal Bhowmick corner from the right.
