India could stage a European PGA Tour event next year, a leading Indian golf official said on Friday.
"We're looking at a $2 million dollar event at some time early next year," the official said. "We are still in discussions and once we finalise we will make an official announcement."
New Delhi would be the likely venue if the event is finalised and sponsors have shown keen interest, said the official, who did not wish to be identified.
The European PGA already holds various events across Asia.
Golf is among the few non-cricket sports that has steadily grown in popularity in India and found good sponsorship support thanks to the country's booming economy.
